Welcome to Joupiska
Jouppilanvuori, also known as Joupiska (or Jouppiska), is the highest point in Seinäjoki at 118 meters above sea level, located right near the city center. Since the 1980s the hill has been elevated to make it more suitable for skiing. This work has been part of a local ‘mountain-building project,’ where with true Ostrobothnian determination the hill has been shaped into a skiable slope.
Entrepreneurs
Since 2018, Joupiska’s slopes have been run by entrepreneurs Jari “Jake” Särkipaju and Toni “Tomppa” Viimavirta. From the very beginning, they’ve been hands-on with the work, and you can still find them on the slopes personally serving customers.

Jari ”Jake” Särkipaju
Jake is the creative spirit of Joupiska – a true Grand Master of park obstacles. His head is always buzzing with new ideas, and many of them end up taking shape on the slopes. And when the lifts finally stop for the night, you’ll find Jake behind the wheel of the snowcat, carving perfect lines into the mountain to get it ready for the next day.
The absolute best part is watching our juniors develop. Many of our visitors were just kids when we first started as slope entrepreneurs. Now they’re young adults, and their skills have grown tremendously. I encourage every parent to take a moment and watch how talented these skiers have become. And every year, new juniors join in.” – Jake

Toni ”Tomppa” Viimavirta
Tomppa keeps busy all season in the rental shop. Several times a day, he grabs the grinder and gets to work. Sorry parents, but those new twin tips just need their edges rounded. Bent brakes or loose edges? Tomppa usually has them fixed in no time, making sure everyone’s gear is ready for the slopes. Tomppa only speaks finnish.
“It’s really great to see happy customers. We started pretty much from scratch, and visitors have kept coming from the very beginning. Clearly, something has been done right. Joupiska is easy to visit even for a short time. You don’t always need to book a whole day for skiing – you can drop by the local slopes for just a couple of hours.” – Tomppa
Location
Joupiska is easy to reach from many directions and by different modes of transport. Locals can walk or cycle, most visitors come by car, but people have even traveled here by train. The railway station is less than three kilometers from the slopes.”
